iPhone blogging!

I now have what I’ve coveted for quite a while: an iPhone!
Thanks to the IRS forcing a change in how cell phones are handled by employers (the Feds want their tax bite). Ownership is getting tranferred to employees, along with a stipend to pay for the service, and the Feds get their slice out of that.
Well, I was able to trade my Verizon BlackBerry Curve for an iPhone on AT&T – a trade I was more than happy to make, even given our being a GroupWise email/calendar shop.
The WordPress app for the iPhone is very cool, and this far I don’t miss the BlackBerry’s keyboard at all, as the touchscreen version on the iPhone is really well done.
More as it’s warranted…

I covet.
What do you use for syncing aside from plugging it in? Mobile Me or something else?
Right now, I’ve got the email pointing to my Gmail (personal) & Groupwise (work) accounts via IMAP, which works quite nicely, and actually does a pretty good job of pinging me when I have mail.
For calendaring & contacts, though, it’s a little stickier, primarily because of the use of Groupwise at work. At this moment, I’ve cobbled together a system that centers on consolidating my calendars (personal and work) in a Google Calendar (using CompanionLink for Google to sync the Groupwise calendar with Google Calendar), and then using NuevaSync to keep that master/consolidated calendar & my contacts all nicely, automatically, & wirelessly synced with the iPhone.
MobileMe is intriguing, but I don’t know that I want to shift my email life over to Apple’s cloud. But it is surely tempting, especially when it can be had for cheaper than retail by getting a code over at eBay…
The huge complicating factor for me — that which is just full of suck — is that work insists on using Groupwise. And Novell still isn’t forthcoming with any iPhone compatibility love, or even with any easier two-way sync love with ICS/CalDAV calendars. Oh well, at least I’ve got my little kludgy system in place & running right now.
I’m by no means suggesting MobileMe. I’m getting ready to scrap my account when its time is up. I’ve had nothing but problems with the iDisk and other features. I just purchased web hosting through dreamhost and am working on cobeling together my own solution using gmail, gcal, etc.
I think I’m going to sit on the decision to get an iPhone for a while and wait and see what else they come out with…
